Apple Intelligence, now powered by the new M5 processor, is quietly adding practical AI tools to iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. Features such as Prioritize Notifications, automatic Summaries for messages and emails, a refreshed Siri experience with silent activation and ChatGPT integration, a Reduce Interruptions Focus mode, and an AI‑enhanced Clean Up tool in Photos are already available on compatible models. AI Power Under the Hood

Apple Intelligence runs on the recently announced M5 processor, which boosts on‑device neural processing for iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Vision Pro. This hardware upgrade paves the way for a suite of AI‑driven features that operate locally, enhancing speed and privacy.

Prioritize Notifications

One of the most immediately useful tools is Prioritize Notifications. When a notification arrives that the system deems important—such as weather alerts, messages from frequent contacts, or time‑sensitive emails—it is highlighted at the top of the lock‑screen with a distinctive shimmer. Users can enable the feature in Settings > Notifications and fine‑tune which apps are allowed to surface priority alerts.

Automatic Summaries

Apple Intelligence also provides concise, single‑sentence summaries for incoming messages, emails and web pages. In the Mail app, tapping the Summarize button generates a short rundown of the message’s content. Safari’s Reader mode includes a Summary button that condenses articles into a quick TL;DR, helping users skim information without opening full texts.

Siri Gets a Refresh

Siri now sports a multicolored halo animation on devices that support Apple Intelligence, signaling the AI’s involvement. The assistant is more forgiving of mispronunciations and can listen for follow‑up questions after delivering an answer. Users can invoke Siri silently by double‑tapping the bottom edge of the screen (Tap to Siri) or by pressing both Command keys twice on a Mac, avoiding the need to say “Hey Siri.” Additionally, Siri can fall back to ChatGPT for queries it cannot answer directly, without requiring a separate ChatGPT account.

Reduce Interruptions Focus Mode

The new Reduce Interruptions Focus mode acts as a smarter filter for notifications. When activated, it lets potentially important alerts—like weather warnings or banking messages—break through the usual Focus barriers, labeling them as “Maybe Important.” This mode can be turned on from the Control Center’s Focus button.

Clean Up in Photos

Photos now includes a Clean Up tool that uses generative AI to remove unwanted objects from images. After selecting the Clean Up button, the app highlights suggested items for removal; users can confirm or draw their own selection, and the AI fills the space with plausible pixels. While not a replacement for professional editors, it offers a quick way to tidy up casual shots.

Device Compatibility

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, as well as on compatible iPad, MacBook and Vision Pro devices. Although still in beta, the feature set is expanding, with more tools expected to roll out over time.
